Bodega
Ave.
by Roberta M. Rosa
Bodega Ave. is a comic based on a bunch of culturally assorted kids from
Brooklyn that are right on the verge of being teenagers.
The comics focus isn’t just based on issues from Brooklyn; it also
tackles issues that are going around in pop-culture today.
Tara Lopez, Tatiana Suarez Pico, and Aurin Squire are the masterminds
behind Bodega Ave. Tara went to the famous Parsons
School of Design in NYC and majored in illustration and animation. She is
also the one responsible for the brilliant art we see in
each comic. Tatiana is the main mija who is in charge of magically
translating the comics from English to Spanish. She is also an
actress who hasn’t made it YET...according to her bio at
www.bodegaave.com. So any director reading this should make it a
priority to call her. Last but certainly not least, from Opa Locka,
Florida we have Aurin, the man with the pen in his hand. He is
the writer of Bodega Ave. so when you smile you laugh think of him, but
when you post the comic up on your cubicle or refrigerator,
think of all three of them.
Bodega Ave. is something Latina/o comic lovers have been waiting for a
long time. We now have comics that look like us! You
can visit their website
www.bodegaave.com every Monday to read a new comic. My favorite comic
is entitled, “Flava of Love”.
Please check it out and spread the word.
