Corry Perez
Born the oldest daughter of five children, in the Central Valley of
California, Artist
Corry Perez
cannot remember a time in her life where she was not filled with art,
music and inspiration.
Just look at her ethnic background…Portuguese, Irish, English and Mexican
American!!
Who needs paint when you have a mix like that in your blood stream?
Corry’s family started out living in a little mobile home on a dusty
vineyard in Fresno. As a
child she rode her big wheel; picked chili’s from the circle-shaped
garden for her father’s
breakfast, played with half-coyote pups, and had a ball taking baths in
the big sink they had
out back. Her mother created and crafted amazing gifts and décor. And
her father? He was
a professional guitar player. Sounds like a pretty artsy family!
Corry has now gotten SO over the big-wheel stage. She is currently a
student at California
State University, Fresno, where she is a senior majoring in Liberal
Studies with an emphasis
on art, as well as pursuing a second major in Chicano-Latin-American
Studies. On top of being
a great artist and student; Corry is a single mother of a 10 year old
daughter.
She has been working her way through college by working as a hostess at a
breakfast eatery,
a seamstress/operator at an embroidery shop, selling her work on eBay and
doing private
commissions.
Her favorite painting subjects are Latina women portrayed strong and
whimsical in all shades,
Latin-American culture, Frida Kahlo, Abstract art based on interpretation
from poems or songs,
Tori Amos, and a variety of fairy-tale and animal folk-style paintings.
“Art is my passion, and like many people born to create, this passion has
been instilled in me
as long as I can remember. I paint in Oils, Acrylics and sometimes inks
and watercolor.” said
Corry.
Corry has done commissioned work for private homes as well as businesses in
California, and
continues to welcome it! You can visit her website by clicking
