One of the greatest things happened in reggaeton music around November
of 2005, they are called Las Fieras
(the female beasts)! Who are they you ask? Well allow me to introduce
them to you. Angelique (Puerto Rico)
is a Brooklyn born singer/songwriter, and La Cangri (El Salvador)
an Atlantic City born fire-spitting rapper/emcee.
They are breaking history as the first Latina
duo in their genre.
When I found out about Las Fieras, I was struck with excitement. Who
would’ve thought of having a Latina duo in
an industry that at most times degrades women? Jose A. Lugo a.k.a.
“Grandpa Jose”, CEO/Founder of Big Break
Records Inc. that’s who. He instantly saw the talent of both ladies and
created, “Las Fieras”.
After months in the studio, they released their first album “Reinando el
Juego”. Their first single was entitled, “Le
Pago”. Following singles also included, “Una Fiera Como Yo” and their
most popular track, “Baila”. When “Baila”
released, it clearly sent out a message to the entire reggaeton world
that they mean business, and are here to stay.
Angelique and La Cangri are not here to give paybacks to all of the
degrading Latino reggaeton artists. They are simply
here to empower, strengthen and spread pride to all Latinas. You can feel
their passion through their voice and energy
through their performance.
Las
Fieras have a busy schedule this year. They will be in Chicago in April,
then gracing a few summer festivals in the
NYC area, El Salvador in September and Univision's Sabado Gigante later
on in the year. Big Break Records is currently
building a new studio that should be done by this summer. Las Fieras
will be working on their 2nd album this year with
composers Nadiel & Mau, who worked with them on “Reinendo el Juego”.
In closing, I would like to suggest a few hot tracks out of their album.
“Activa” is a Mija Magazine favorite. Also check
out, “Rompe el Piso” featuring Anak, and “Baila”.
